Our Audience Insights Pixel helps you unlock deeper reporting and measurement across your site. Adding it is quick and typically only requires placing a short script into your website’s <head> section.
This guide walks you through the general process and provides examples for common content management systems (CMSs). Because every CMS is different, your exact steps may vary.
Where to Find Your Audience Insights Pixel
You can obtain your unique pixel script in either of the following ways:
EmpowerLocal Dashboard: Navigate to your Ad Configuration section, where your pixel snippet is displayed.
From EmpowerLocal: A member of our team can provide your script if needed.
Once you have the script, you’ll add it to your website’s header—specifically before the closing </head> tag.
General Installation Steps
Copy your Audience Insights Pixel script.
Open the header template or designated header-injection area within your CMS.
Paste the script immediately before the closing
</head>tag.Save or publish your changes.
Clear any caching layers if applicable (site cache, CDN cache, theme cache).
That’s all that’s required. Implementation is usually complete within one or two minutes.
Platform-Specific Examples
Below are a few options depending on how your site is managed.
WordPress
There are two common approaches:
1. Using the Theme File Editor (Advanced Users Only)
Only recommended if you're comfortable editing theme files directly.
Go to Appearance › Theme File Editor
Select header.php
Paste the pixel script before
</head>Save the file
Note: Editing theme files directly can cause issues if done incorrectly, and updates to your theme may overwrite changes. Proceed only if you're experienced with theme development.
2. Using a Theme or Plugin Header Script Field
Most modern WordPress themes include a safe method for adding header scripts:
Check under Theme Options, Customize, or a dedicated Header Scripts section.
Paste your script into the field labeled “Header Scripts,” “Tracking Codes,” or similar.
Save your changes.
Alternatively, plugins like Insert Headers and Footers can be used if your theme doesn’t provide a script-insertion panel.
FTP or File Manager Access
If you or your developer manages the site through FTP or your hosting provider’s file manager:
Navigate to your active theme folder or template system.
Open the file that contains the
<head>section (oftenheader.phporhead.html).Insert the Audience Insights Pixel before the
</head>tag.Save and upload the updated file.
This method is common for fully custom websites or sites hosted on generic web servers.
BLOX CMS (TownNews)
For BLOX customers:
Submit a ticket to BLOX Support.
Request that they add the EmpowerLocal Audience Insights Pixel to your global header.
Include your script directly in the ticket.
BLOX typically prefers to make header updates on behalf of publishers.
Other CMS Platforms
Many platforms restrict direct access to header files. Options may include:
Submitting a support request to your CMS provider
Asking your web developer to place the script for you
Using a built-in tracking or script-injection tool (common in SaaS CMS platforms)
If you aren’t sure where to place the pixel, your CMS or developer should be able to assist. Just forward them the script.
Additional Notes
Headers that are cached by CDNs (Cloudflare, Fastly, etc.) may require a cache purge after installation.
If your site uses a staging environment, be sure to add the pixel to production, not just staging.
If you run multiple templates or microsites, each template containing a
<head>tag must include the pixel.
