Overview
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for setting up the Promoted Stories script on your site. EmpowerLocal will supply this script via email along with a help guide and any additional instructions needed.
Where to Place the Promoted Stories Script
To ensure the script displays correctly and optimally, follow these placement guidelines:
-
Standard Placement:
Place the Promoted Stories script in your CMS to display at the bottom of all article content. This ensures it appears where readers are most engaged. -
Best Placement with Other Ad Units:
If you're also using the Local Savings Unit and/or Local Stories Player:- Recommended Order: Position the Promoted Stories script just below the Local Savings Unit and/or just above the Local Stories Player. This placement maximizes ad impact and flow.
-
Ads.txt Update:
- If you are implementing the Promoted Stories Ad unit for the first time along with other EmpowerLocal ad units, we will provide the necessary lines for your ads.txt file for the entire implementation.
- If you are adding the Promoted Stories Ad unit to existing EmpowerLocal ad units, please update your ads.txt file with the most recent version available in the EmpowerLocal Dashboard to ensure proper ad delivery and revenue tracking.
Important Notes for WordPress Plugin Users
If you are running the Local Action Unit and/or Local Stories Player using the EmpowerLocal WordPress plugin, please consider the following:
-
Plugin Limitations: The WordPress plugin does not support positioning the Promoted Stories script between the Local Action Unit and Local Stories Player.
-
Your Options:
- Option 1 - Manual Placement: Disable the Local Action Unit and Local Stories Player in the plugin and manually insert these units along with the Promoted Stories script directly in your CMS. This provides full control over placement.
- Option 2 - Alternative Placement: Continue using the plugin for the Local Action Unit and Local Stories Player, and add the Promoted Stories script manually in your CMS to display below these two units.
