Introduction
This guide provides instructions for adding the Local Savings Unit to your publication. We’ll provide instructions to implement via Javascript codes, and the EmpowerLocal WordPress plugin.
Requirements
- Access to your CMS (Content Management System)
-
Locate your ad code in the “Ad Configuration” section of the EmpowerLocal Dashboard. Choose “Javascript” in the top tabs for javascript codes to copy and paste into your CMS, or choose the WordPress tab to download the EmpowerLocal WordPress plugin.
Implementation Steps:
Step 1: Log In to Your CMS
-
Start by accessing the CMS where your website’s content is managed.
Step 2: Insert the Ad Code
- Navigate to the area within your CMS where you can edit the HTML or content of your pages.
- Login to the EmpowerLocal Dashboard and navigate to “Ad Configuration” on the left navigation.
- Scroll down to Step 3 for "Select ad placements"
- Choose “Local Savings Unit” from the dropdown.
- Click the red “Get Widget Code” button, and copy the javascript code from the pop-up window.
-
Place the ad code in your CMS to run at the very bottom of all article content
-
WordPress: If your site is on WordPress, you can use the EmpowerLocal WordPress plugin as an alternative to manual code insertion. You can find this plugin by going to the “Ad Configuration” section within the EmpowerLocal Dashboard. Here is a link to additional documentation for how to set up the plugin.
Step 4: Expand Ad Placement
- Beyond articles, consider placing the ad unit on your home page and section pages. Select locations that align with your site’s layout and visitor flow.
-
If you are implementing with our WordPress plugin, you can scroll to the bottom of the settings page and copy/paste the shortcodes where you’d like to place the ad unit.
Step 5: Save and Publish Changes
-
After adding the code, make sure to save all changes.
Step 6: Notify for Verification
- Inform us once the ad is live by sending a notification.
- We will check from our end to confirm that it displays correctly and operates as intended.
Important Notes
- The Local Savings Unit cannot operate through traditional ad delivery systems such as Google Ad Manager (GAM) or Broadstreet. It requires direct code placement on the page.
- The Local Savings Unit cannot be placed in a right rail. It has to be placed in the main body of an article or a page.
-
This ad unit is designed to display intermittently and will not appear every time a page is loaded. This is part of its functionality and should be expected.
