Introduction
This guide provides instructions for adding the Local Action Unit to your articles. We’ll provide instructions to implement via Javascript codes, and the EmpowerLocal WordPress plugin.
Requirements
- Access to your CMS (Content Management System)
-
Locate your ad code in the “Ad Configuration” section of the EmpowerLocal Dashboard. Choose “Javascript” in the top tabs for javascript codes to copy and paste into your CMS, or choose the WordPress tab to download the EmpowerLocal WordPress plugin.
Implementation Steps:
Step 1: Log In to Your CMS
-
Start by accessing the CMS where your website’s content is managed.
Step 2: Insert the Ad Code
- Navigate to the area within your CMS where you can edit the HTML or content of your pages.
- Login to the EmpowerLocal Dashboard and navigate to “Ad Configuration” on the left navigation.
- Click the red “Get Ad Placements” button under Step 2
- When the new window opens, choose “Local Action Unit” from the dropdown in the top left of the window.
- Leave align set to “Center”
- Click the red “Get Widget Code” button, and copy the javascript code from the pop-up window
-
Place the ad code in your CMS to run in content within your articles. Since this ad unit is paid on viewable impressions, we typically recommend placing it around 2-3 paragraphs from the top of all of your articles. You can place it lower, however, the lower down the page, the less likely it will be viewed and revenue will likely decrease as well.
-
WordPress: If your site is on WordPress, you can use the EmpowerLocal WordPress plugin as an alternative to manual code insertion. You can find this plugin by going to the “Ad Configuration” section within the EmpowerLocal Dashboard. Here is a link to additional documentation for how to set up the plugin.
Step 3: Save and Publish Changes
-
After adding the code, make sure to save all changes.
Step 4: Notify for Verification
- Inform us once the ad is live by sending a notification.
- We will check from our end to confirm that it displays correctly and operates as intended.
Important Notes
- The Local Action Unit can only be run in article content. It cannot be placed on a home page or section pages.
- The Local Action Unit cannot be placed in a right rail. It must be run between paragraphs within your article content.
